I presented a paper with Oul Han titled Vertical and Horizontal Polarization Comparative Analysis of German and British Newspapers’ Coverage of Refugees from 2006 to 2018 at the Language of Polarization conference on last Saturday (slides). Lena March started organizing this conference a few years ago and she made this to happen in the online format this year. I did not present my papers at any conference for nearly 2 years due mainly to the time difference between Japan and Europe or the US, but I finally could thanks to her much effort. It was very nice to interact with old and new colleagues in Europe.
I started this project with Oul in 2019 to develop tools and techniques for cross-lingual text analysis. There were many methodological challenges in the early stages of the project but comparative analysis of European-language (German and English) texts became much easier for me through this project. I also developed tools and techniques for comparative analysis of Asian-language texts (Japanese and Hebrew) in other project. My papers from these projects should be published this year and encourage other researchers to embark on cross-lingual text analysis projects.
